If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea

Taking a new approach to engagement

At its heart, an organisation is simply a collection of people coming together to achieve a purpose. Years of wisdom, experience and research has shown that organisations can only succeed with engaged, passionate and dedicated employees – who are empowered, equipped, and allowed to get on with what they are good at.

Millions are spent yearly on “engaging” employees – much of which is not making the sustainable impact we desire. The Centre Path takes a different approach – based on award winning client experience and our own and others academic research – predicated on a few principles:

  • Employee engagement is not just a re branding of job satisfaction or climate. It is a psychological condition and influenced primarily by a sense of meaningfulness, levels of psychological safety and trust, and our ability to be present and available.
  • It’s a fallacy that we can simply “engage” someone. We can only create the conditions in which someone may choose to engage
  • Engagement is not just good communications – it is a culture, it is dialogue, it is involvement, it is a leadership style.
  • Traditional focus is given to the things organisations do to engage their employees, rather than focusing more fully on the 2-way contract between both employee and the organisation – and supporting employees with the skills and mindsets they need to be able to engage

How we can help

We work with organisations and employees to create a balanced approach to engagement that creates the conditions of meaningfulness, presence and trust:

World class engagement strategies to create the right conditions

Developing a comprehensive systemic engagement strategy that is right for your business, ensuring leadership, strategy, HR and communications work in concert together to create the conditions for people to thrive

Equipping employees with the personal resources to be able and willing to engage

Working closely with L&D and leadership to give employees the right training and support to develop their own skills to be able to engage. Things like resilience, comfort in uncertainty, mindfulness, self belief, emotional intelligence

Creating a collaborative dialogue across the organisation

Breaking down silos and embracing informal networks to increase day to day connection. Taking internal comms from the province of HR or Corporate Communications and putting it in the hands of employees and leadership

What does this look like in practice

Our projects are always tailored to your own particular context, but could include:

  • Engagement health checks using your existing engagement tools or recommending new ones, and identifying the sweet spots for increasing engagement levels
  • Developing world class engagement strategies that are simple, targeted and make a difference and upskilling engagement professionals and internal communications
  • Helping educate the organisation and leadership on engagement and its importance in the business
  • Upskilling leaders to be engaging and authentic
  • Facilitating team processes to co-develop engagement
  • Developing dialogue and involvement across the organisation – from strategy to day to day delivery
  • Running engaging courses to help employees develop their own tools
